Stone Town.
It was just an utterly ordinary little town, no different from anywhere else. Even adventurers, those magnets for trouble, would never show up somewhere like this.
Yet this was the place the Night Goddess had pointed Li Wei toward.
"One of my followers passed through here while preaching, and through him, I sensed a Saint's presence. Fortunately, they haven't awakened yet." Li Wei walked with his cane, recalling the Night Goddess's words.
A Saint's existence had three stages. In the first, when they returned to the world, they were as ignorant as infants, knowing nothing of their own existence, mission, or even power. But they would act on instinct-some liked fighting, others liked singing, and so on. Then, when they remembered who they were, their lost power would return. That was the second stage. They were no longer weak, powerless mortals, but gods with the power to move mountains and overturn seas. The Goddess of Joy whom Li Wei had met was in this stage.
Then came the third stage: returning to the Divine Realm.
Some might ask: if Saints could wield a god's power in the physical world, why return to the Divine Realm? What was wrong with staying?
The reason was simple. As long as they remained in the physical world, Saints could die.
They were powerful, but not invincible. During the past year of the Saints' fall, quite a few gods had been killed, and several mortals had taken their places and ascended to godhood.
Only by returning to the Divine Realm could they regain eternal, undying life. They could send avatars into the physical world while sitting high on their divine thrones at the pinnacle of the heavens. Even if their avatars died, they themselves would not.
Oh, and avatars could have children, too.
