The affair in the Third Haven came to a close, and afterward, Li Wei claimed his quest rewards.
Li Wei found that the system was becoming increasingly sly. Previously, perhaps because he had been under beginner protection, it would issue quests before they began, letting him know whether an incident was natural or supernatural. Now, however, the system insisted on waiting until Li Wei had uncovered the secrets and connections before finally displaying a quest notification.
In plain terms, whether the system issued a quest now depended entirely on how closely Li Wei observed things, whether his thinking was on the right track, and whether he could uncover the secrets the other party had hidden.
If he found them, the system would generously offer him a quest and rewards.
If he failed-well-that was another story.
All Li Wei could say to that was-fine. Who told him to choose this line of work, anyway?
The system's requirements were strict, but Li Wei wasn't afraid. In fact, he rather liked it this way.
What was the most satisfying part of being a detective?
It certainly wasn't bringing criminals to justice. That was basic work for a detective. If you couldn't even solve a case, what business did you have being one? You might as well switch careers and sell sweet potatoes.
For a detective, the greatest pleasure was naturally digging into other people's private lives!
Not just something as superficial as a motive for murder, either. Ideally, you would uncover their childhood scars and psychological trauma, then find the truth behind them. To a detective, that was like a hidden treasure chest in a game that could only be obtained by solving puzzles. The sense of achievement was in a completely different league from an ordinary chest earned by beating a boss!
