When the armored train charged back into that long, pitch-black tunnel, its brilliant lights illuminated everything around it, leaving not a single blind spot above, below, ahead, behind, or to either side.

The monsters that had been hiding in the darkness were like bashful brides-to-be, their concealing clothes brutally ripped away, leaving them naked before this band of aggressive bandits. They screamed, struggled, and tried to fight back.

But none of that meant a damn thing. To these fully armed intruders, the monsters' resistance was even feebler than that of a girl stripped bare. One slap was enough to send them crumpling to the ground in tears, after which they could only despair as they were finished off.

Li Wei did not even direct the battle. He simply sat in a chair by the window, drinking tea and reading the documents beside him while listening to the laser cannons, machine guns, and piercing screams outside.

In Li Wei's eyes, there was no suspense whatsoever to this battle, and the facts proved him right.

About an hour later, the monsters' screams outside the armored train died away. Li Wei glanced out the window and saw their corpses carpeting the ground. They resembled enormous bats, each roughly the size of a person, with ugly, doglike heads hanging limply. Long tongues and teeth were visible inside their open mouths.

We'll have to clean this place up later and install lights throughout the tunnel.

After a moment's thought, Li Wei picked up his notebook and wrote that down. Then he saw Big Annie get off with several soldiers, pick through the corpses, and select a few relatively intact specimens to bring aboard. Afterward, the train started up again and continued forward.
