As a field company, the soldiers under Captain Brock were indeed elite. And when it came to reconnaissance in unfamiliar territory, they certainly had methods of their own.
An Empire army regiment consisted of five companies. A company generally had four to five platoons, each platoon had five squads, and each squad had nine soldiers and a squad leader. Captain Brock's reconnaissance method was to divide each ten-man squad into two five-man fire teams. He believed that although they had no experience conducting reconnaissance in the underground wilderness, its narrow confines allowed them to organize their teams according to urban combat standards.
Two five-man fire teams could defend the front and rear simultaneously and support each other, while coordinating more easily than a full squad. Li Wei had no objections, but he also put forward some requirements of his own.
First, every reconnaissance team sent out had to report to headquarters every twenty minutes. If they discovered they had lost contact, they were to return immediately to a place where communications worked and reestablish contact. If there was no response within forty minutes, headquarters would send additional reinforcements.
Second, if they encountered anything strange, they were to report it, observe it, and keep their distance. Also, if they found any well-preserved documents or information, they were to bring them back first, even if they could not understand them.
Keep your hands to yourselves.
Finally, they were not to let their emotions cloud their judgment. They had to remember their position at all times. Even if a teammate went missing, they were not to go looking for them directly, but report it immediately and wait for reinforcements.
Under no circumstances were they to lose their heads and go off on their own.
Nobody objected to Li Wei's requirements. Some even thought
