"Whoooosh!"
The roaring flood surged into the city, drowning its streets. The Crystal Monsters had no time to dodge and were swallowed up like so many slow-moving stone statues-well, considering they had no organs, they probably couldn't drown.
But Li Wei had no time to worry about the Crystal Monsters now, because his own group could drown!
"Boom!"
Floodwater crashed through the corridor toward the hall as everyone raced up the stairs.
"Argh, these things are so annoying!"
Katie led the way, swinging the Greatsword in her hands and knocking aside every Crystal Monster that charged at them. The Firepower Squad followed close behind, holding the Anti-Magic Field high as they advanced. Li Wei brought up the rear. Although such dangerous work shouldn't have fallen to him, he had [Shifting Positions]. If danger struck, he could get away. Whether anyone else could was another question.
By now, they had long since left the underground passage and were climbing the main staircase. Royal Cities all had similar designs, with a main route leading straight to the Royal Court. Of course, these routes were normally sealed off, but Li Wei had an automatic lockpicker with him. No matter how securely a door was locked, it made no difference to Katie.
"Hah!"
Katie kicked open the door and charged into an empty hall. They were nearly at the top of the Royal City now. Below them, the flood still churned and surged, but its rise had gradually slowed. At least for the moment, the danger of being swallowed by the flood had passed.
"Phew..."
Looking at the flood roaring and swirling below and behind them, Li Wei breathed a sigh of relief. Everyone else wore the same expression of relief at having survived. Those Crystal Monsters had kept lunging at them, clearly intent
