"It seemed Vashtorr had abandoned them completely. These traitor Titan Legions were being wiped out."
"That was good news for me, at least. The Lord of the Forge had retreated for now."
Ever since his remote confrontation with Lox aboard the Blackstone Fortress, the ambitious Vashtorr had made no further moves. That only gave Lox more doubts and suspicions.
But at least the bastard had not caused trouble yet. That counted as good news amid bad.
Lox was now observing this most grand and spectacular Titan war in Imperial history from a broader perspective.
Or perhaps it could be called—the death of the Titans.
The Imperium had deployed roughly thirty Titan Legions to a single planet, including the elite Sunfire Titan Legion Lox had brought from the Five Hundred Worlds.
The rebels, meanwhile, had more than twenty Titan Legions serving as pawns. These Warp-corrupted Titans possessed greater vitality and mobility, and they had already displayed the hallmarks and traits of the four Chaos Gods.
The Sunfire Titan Legion had proven its strength and might. With the Emperor-class Titan Fist of Ultramar as its tactical core and four Bellator-pattern Emperor-class Titans as its main assault vanguard, this youngest of Titan Legions showed its many elders what it meant to be an outsider who fought without honor.
The Sunfire Titan Legion possessed the Ultramarines' distinctive style: overwhelming numbers and firepower.
It had been established only a few years ago, an urgently expanded Titan Legion built by the Lord of Ultramar in response to the Shadow Crusade launched by his traitor brother. As such, the Sunfire Titan Legion had no famed tactical specialties or signature combat style.
Its regular strength had already approached two hundred and fifty Titans, and after the war began, it had been urgently expanded to more than three hundred.
