Lox had high expectations for Adam. He had even called in favors from the primarchs, asking them to teach Adam various combat techniques and the deeper, more complex art of war.
During the journey back to Terra from Beta-Garmon, Adam studied swordsmanship under Jaghatai Khan and sought Lion El'Jonson's guidance in wargaming.
Sanguinius also came by occasionally to offer instruction. However, given the Angel's indolent nature, he actually preferred standing outside the sparring grounds, holding a platter of fruit as he ate and watched, casually pointing out Adam's mistakes and shortcomings.
Every primarch was an absolute master in his own field. Although Adam could rely on his perfect memory to imitate and reproduce what he learned at tremendous speed, he still needed more time to grasp its essence.
In Lox's estimation, Adam would form a complementary relationship with the Iron Men legion's master Cogitator.
The master Cogitator would rely on its absolute processing power to command large-scale mass warfare, while Adam would focus more on the abstract realm of strategic guidance, or lead elite war-model Iron Men in decapitation strikes.
Before witnessing a supreme war commander like Lion El'Jonson, Lox had once believed that a Cogitator's immense computational power could be used to exhaustively simulate the optimal tactics for war.
Only after truly witnessing it did Lox realize just how naive his thoughts had been.
At the very least, without an absolute advantage in numbers and quality, if a force led by Lion El'Jonson fought one controlled by the master Cogitator, the vast majority of victories would belong to the Lion.
War had never been a matter of simple data calculations. Virtual was ultimately virtual; it might aid warfare, but it would never be the deciding factor in war.
After all, this universe had never been a purely material universe.
