They also had clever methods for weaving baskets and polishing stone tools, which had considerable value as handicrafts.

Roland had the returning men stand before him and display the battle tattoos they had won in their bouts.
"Sir, those Sladelta People really are stubborn beyond belief. I offered to trade gold coins and gemstones for them, but they flatly refused. We had to beat up their warriors instead.
"They said these battle tattoos all had ranks, and anyone without the corresponding achievements simply wasn't worthy!"
"Exactly. It took so much trouble just to join their bonfire feast. All they had to do was invite their wizard over to make a few strokes, but they insisted on making it this complicated."
Everyone voiced their complaints.
"All right, I know you worked hard. Everyone who brought back a battle tattoo will receive a hundred gold coins. Higher-grade battle tattoos will earn additional rewards."
