It was frustrating, really. After so many years of development, scarcely anyone in the magical world had truly devoted themselves to these fields. They kept coming back to spells like "Lightning Bolt," "Shocking Grasp," "Electric Claw," "Chain Lightning," "Ball Lightning," and "Lightning Storm."
Evocation spells like "Ball Lightning" involved remarkable techniques for shaping energy and guiding it remotely, fields even the science of his previous life had yet to reach.
Then there was "Electric Field Shield," which only technologies like plasma shields came close to resembling...
Even in his previous life, these would have been science-fiction-level technologies.
Yet basic electromagnetic applications, such as telegraphs...
Were extremely limited instead.
The lightning mages created with magic seemed different from the electricity on Blue Star in his previous life.
It could not readily be converted into magnetism.
Neither was superior or inferior. They were two nearly parallel paths, each following a different course of development.
Compared to this world's mages, Roland had the advantage of knowing about another path.
That did little to help with fundamental research.
But at the higher tier and above, where one led the development of an era and advanced arcana on a broader scale, it played a crucial role.
"At last, I've found something worthwhile to establish a research project around and explore."
When it came to developing arcana and Seris magic, Roland felt genuine joy.
Farn was equally delighted, feeling as though a great revelation had struck him.
"The meaning of yin and yang in Seris Runes?"
He knew a little about them.
"They really might be applicable to this field.
I'm looking for a way to take things further right now.
And with my elemental affinity and ability to sense magic power, perhaps I could..."
Everyone else listened in stunned silence.
With just a few words,
