There had always been conflicting accounts of where Wish came from.
Some said it was a legend of the world.
Some said it was the origin of Arcana.
Others said it was a miracle left behind by a true deity.
Still others said it was the first driving force that created the universe!
Regardless, to the vast majority of mages, this spell was notorious for its high cost, random effects, and unpredictability. It was hardly a routine spell they used often.
Like most spells, Wish included a verbal component.
Compared with other spells, however, it imposed much stricter requirements on wording, even tone, and many other details, while producing far more chaotic and unpredictable effects.
It was like a game with an outside referee who alone determined all the specific rules.
What languages he understood, what wording and tone he preferred, the precise limits of his abilities, and even his mood at the time were all factors that had to be considered when casting the spell.
Some also likened it to an artificial intelligence that was not particularly intelligent: give it the appropriate prompt, and it would respond.
But what model it used, and what principles and mechanisms governed its operation, were entirely impossible to predict.
To date, understanding of this spell throughout Atrelin remained extremely limited. There had even been multiple attempts to outlaw it.
The ninth-level spell Wish provided by the magic network was subject to strict restrictions and safeguards.
It was actually an improved version of the seventh-level spell Limited Wish from the era of the Magic Empire.
If it was used only to obtain conveniences within the caster's own capabilities, such as substituting spells, removing spell effects, creating magic items, transporting people, or resurrecting the dead, it could be considered relatively safe and stable.
Once it
