Roland could hardly wait. Eager to see this legendary spell for himself, he hurried back to his teacher's office to borrow what he needed.
"You want to test Limited Wish?"
Ovesto grew interested when he heard this.
"This spell is far weaker in effect than the complete Level 9 version, but you must still remember to follow the regulations.
When you use these special spells, you have to take responsibility for the consequences."
"I know. You must never make vague, muddled wishes at random, because any wish beyond the caster's abilities will be fulfilled in a distorted way.
As for how badly it gets distorted, that comes down to luck.

This gem is worth about two thousand gold coins, enough to offer as a sacrifice to cover the spell's cost."
If casting the Level 9 spell Wish cost ten to twenty thousand gold coins, then the Level 7 Limited Wish cost one to two thousand.
That cost might even fall thanks to Grand Mage Watson's research, making it cheaper still.
Ovesto generously lent Roland that sum and used his own mental power to trace lines in thin air, helping him construct a simple sacrificial magic array on the desk before them.
Roland took the gem and placed it in the magic array himself. Brimming with excitement, he chanted the incantation in the Atrelin Language. After a flash of white light, he spoke his wish in Elvish: "I wish... to receive two thousand five hundred gold
