Chapter 332: Screening the Dead
On April 5, the Qingming Festival on Huaguo's lunar calendar, Huaguo, as a member of the World Anti-Dark Tide Convention Alliance, formally sent diplomatic notices to the World Anti-Dark Tide Convention Alliance Countries, warning them of a special ghost-type Awakening that could have a major domestic impact.
Some of the information compiled using Sun Xiaoran as a model was disclosed to the other five nations, demonstrating that ghosts and spirits in this world could, to some extent, be communicated with.
Away from the public eye, a sweeping investigation into the dead began simultaneously across the World Anti-Dark Tide Convention Alliance Countries just three days later.
For suspicious deaths within the past three months, if surviving relatives could be found, two investigators would conduct a telephone screening. Any questionable cases would be recorded, with decisions on home visits made according to the circumstances.
But the number of people who died every month was enormous. Investigating them one by one would naturally be far too cumbersome and time-consuming.
Under the first law of evolution, which operated within the limits of the body's peak potential, the main targets were narrowed down to unnatural deaths among children, young people, and adults in their prime.
The screening proceeded on that basis. Other, natural deaths were primarily monitored for warning signs rather than specifically investigated.
Even so, it remained an extremely tedious task.
Only because the alliance's six nations had long since established efficient response mechanisms, with their other national agencies tacitly accepting the principle of giving precedence to orders routed through the special departments, could they achieve any results so quickly.
Their targets came not only from death certificates and other records, but also from the internet. Gathering evidence from diverse information sources was already fundamental to the alliance's operations.
