Chapter 542: A new mutation
At the center of the room, the Crystal Ornament's original form could no longer be seen. All that remained was a mass of utterly lifelike flames, burning ceaselessly and filling half the room.
Heno, Brantai, and the other man were already pressed hard against the walls, yet they still felt as though they were about to catch fire. A powerful sense of pressure bore down on them as well.
Although the door was not far away, all three felt unable to move.
Heno struggled to look toward the Night Hawk leader, disbelief in his eyes. Had this man really caused all this?
The pulsing flames and light gradually stabilized, and the scorching heat slowly eased.
At the center of the room, an utterly lifelike Daybreak symbol had taken shape, its flames and light surging endlessly with the central fireball.
Illusory images suddenly appeared within the flames, as though indistinct, radiant figures were reaching out to hold them aloft. Yet a closer look revealed nothing clearly.
"Light... banish... darkness..."
The sounds of a strange language emerged in broken fragments. They could not understand it, yet they vaguely grasped its meaning.
Just as Heno and Brantai tried to listen more closely, the voice and firelight stopped abruptly. In an instant, the entire room sank back into gloom.
Clink, clink...
It was the sound of the Crystal Ornament falling to the floor.
Thud.
The Night Hawk leader toppled straight to the floor from his position against the wall.
"Huff... huff... wh-what just happened...?"
Brantai breathed heavily, his heart pounding as though it would leap out of his chest. Its frantic beating visibly shook his chest.
Heno was only slightly better off than his son. The shock he felt was no less profound.
