Background / History

Bloodshadow Church and Hua Hong’s Ambush

Wei Yiling and Hua Hong were sent to investigate Yan Liming’s leak of secrets. Hua Hong had suspected her spirit-gathering constitution for a century and repeatedly sought to become her cultivation partner through their elder, but she rejected him. He eventually lured her to a valley under the pretense of finding traces of Yan Liming, then poisoned her with Soft Wyrm Powder and Ecstasy Powder 193 195.

Li Ping killed Hua Hong and found Wei unconscious under the guard of a black tiger spirit beast. He killed the beast, administered an antidote, and used his Longevity Art to remove the remaining poison without exploiting her impaired condition. Wei initially accused him of disrobing her, but recovered memories confirmed that she had torn her own clothes and that he had rejected her advances 196.

She warned Li Ping that Hua Hong’s relative, Hua Wuji, was a late-stage Core Formation elder capable of tracking their auras over immense distances. Rather than trust Hua Wuji to judge the incident fairly, she deserted the sect, recovered her Life Token, took resources, and fled toward Great Zhou 196 348.

Great Zhou and the Eastern Sea Four Fiends

Wei Yiling and Feng Xishuang supported their cultivation by hunting demon beasts in the Eastern Sea’s coastal waters. Although they knew other Core Formation rogue cultivators, Wei distrusted their backgrounds and preferred Li Ping’s help against the Eastern Sea Four Fiends because she had already verified his character 350 360.

She planted a tracking mark in half a portion of Golden Dawn Dew, allowing the three cultivators to pursue the Four Fiends. Their cooperation ended in an estrangement, but Wei regarded the surrendered spoils as repayment for Li Ping saving Feng. She also valued the Four Fiends’ method of crossing Mirage Fog, which gave the women a safer foothold in the Eastern Sea. After they claimed the bounty, they became known as the Eastern Sea Twin Beauties 353 360 361.

Great Harmony Society and Recovery

A Nascent Soul cultivator forced both women into the Great Harmony Society and placed Soul Devouring Restrictions in their divine souls. Wei sought Li Ping’s help and disclosed her spirit-gathering body as part of securing his assistance. He agreed to attempt removal of the restrictions and later entrusted both women with the Heavenly Craft Sect’s third-tier puppet inheritance 363 364 365 373.

Their Society service included several documented expeditions:

Mission Outcome
Northern Mang Mountain Captured a Core Formation ghost for the Society. Wei also insisted on obtaining four liters of extreme yin qi for Li Ping, fighting a zombie nest and suffering injuries 389 390.
Western Great Zhou Collected Dragon-Pattern Fruits over a journey lasting nearly two years 393.
Linishui Commandery Killed an early-stage Core Formation demonic cultivator and transplanted millennium jade condensation grass with its nearly ripe Bloodline Fruit intact 401.
Several commanderies over two years Killed two Core Formation and more than ten Foundation Establishment evil cultivators, earning Society contributions, seized possessions, and official bounties 405.
A subsequent two-year period Killed more than fifty Foundation Establishment evil cultivators while continuing Society assignments 406.

Wei progressed more slowly than Feng in the divine-sense training needed for treatment. By Chapter 406, less than one-fifth of her restriction remained, but the later incident involving the restrictions severely damaged both women’s divine souls. Wei eventually awoke under Li Ping’s protection; he gave her soul-nourishing wood to support recovery 393 406 432.

Rebuilding the Heavenly Craft Sect

Wei accompanied Feng to the Island of Life to avenge Feng’s destroyed sect. Together they killed the enemy sect’s three Core Formation cultivators and core disciples, dispersed its outer disciples, and seized its accumulated resources. Honoring their promise to Li Ping, they established the Heavenly Craft Sect’s lineage on the island’s sole third-tier high-grade spirit vein and began teaching lower-tier Puppet Arts 432 511.

The seized resources included a Nascent Soul Transformation Pill. However, the island lacked the fourth-tier spirit vein Wei needed for her breakthrough, forcing the women to return to Great Zhou 511 518.

Reunion and Nascent Soul Formation

Persistent Immortal Alliance wanted notices, stemming from the accidental killing of Guan Qianzai, blocked their plan to join a Nascent Soul sect. The Sun Family offered Wei guaranteed access to Spirit Firmament City’s fourth-tier vein if the women helped ambush the alchemist Bai Sheng. When Bai Sheng proved to be Li Ping in disguise, both immediately turned against the ambushers 517.

Li Ping subsequently improved Wei’s preparations, particularly her defenses against the heavenly demon heart-refinement tribulation. Returning to the Island of Life, they discovered that its spiritual environment had revived and that a fourth-tier vein was available 525 538.

During Wei’s breakthrough, Li Ping intercepted Ten Thousand Souls High Person before he could attack her. Wei formed her Nascent Soul, survived the lightning tribulation with limited assistance, and completed her consolidation with Granny Suyue’s guidance 541 542 544.

Nascent Soul Responsibilities

Wei became a trusted envoy, delivering Returning Yang Pills to Li Ping’s old acquaintances and bringing Qi Hanmo to the Heavenly Craft Sect. She later carried correspondence from an Immortal Alliance Elders’ Conference and resolved to conduct irregular examinations of the sect’s disciples to guard against infiltration by Ten Thousand Souls High Person 544 546.

She also investigated another cultivation community and discovered that Ten Thousand Souls High Person had slaughtered its inhabitants. Later, she helped Feng withstand the final two waves of her own Nascent Soul lightning tribulation 552 569.

Appearance

Wei is introduced as a coldly beautiful, youthful-looking woman. At her reunion with Li Ping nearly two centuries later, she wears a pale green spell robe and has a mature, married-looking appearance 193 517.

  • Spirit-gathering mark: A luminous pale blue-green design along her spine, resembling two circling phoenixes with long trailing tail feathers 364.
  • Complexion and neck: Fair skin and a slender, swanlike neck 518.
  • Usual presentation: Neat and dignified, even when embarrassed by revealing her constitution 364.

Personality

Wei is proud, sharp-tongued, and decisive. Her early demeanor is particularly cold toward men, and she refuses Hua Hong’s advances despite pressure from his elder. Li Ping later recognizes that her delicate appearance conceals a ruthless willingness to act: she abandons her sect rather than gamble on Hua Wuji’s fairness 193 196 348.

Her affection frequently appears through actions rather than honest declarations. She risks injury to gather resources for Li Ping, then minimizes the danger. After their first intimate encounter, she claims that it need not create a lasting bond while privately hoping he will reassure her; his literal acceptance leaves her regretful but too proud to return 389 395.

Wei is pragmatic about cultivation opportunities. She accepts the Sun Family’s unethical scheme with much less hesitation than Feng, yet immediately sides with Li Ping once she recognizes him. She also respects personal boundaries: understanding that his unusual endurance involves a secret, she chooses not to interrogate him 517 525.

Abilities & Skills

Spirit-Gathering Body

A rare constitution found only in female cultivators, identified by the phoenix-like mark along Wei’s spine 364.

  • Makes her cultivation speed comparable to cultivators with variant or heavenly spiritual roots despite having only dual spirit roots 364.
  • Li Ping assesses her combined aptitude as exceeding that of a heavenly spiritual-root cultivator when she prepares for Nascent Soul formation 540.
  • Makes her a target for predatory cultivation: Hua Hong seeks to exploit the physique for cultivation gains and improved Core Formation prospects 193.

True Phoenix Pill Essence

Her constitution condenses an exceptionally pure essence that she offers Li Ping as promised compensation 394 395.

  • After refinement, enables Li Ping to advance to Core Formation middle stage within a year 396.
  • Produces intertwined jade-phoenix patterns on his golden core 395.
  • Later credited with increasing his Nascent Soul formation chance by twenty percentage points 555.
  • Can be transferred without intimacy; Wei’s assumption otherwise contributes to their first intimate encounter 394.

Combat and Tracking

Wei fights Core Formation opponents, ghosts, and powerful corpses, usually alongside Feng Xishuang 390 405 517.

  • Plants a tracking mark in Golden Dawn Dew to pursue the Eastern Sea Four Fiends 353.
  • Destroys the souls of two third-tier green-haired bronze corpses 390.
  • Uses a throwing-knife treasure to cleave heavenly lightning, surviving the first six bolts without outside help 542.
  • After reaching Nascent Soul, weakens Feng’s final two lightning waves during her breakthrough 552.

Divine-Sense Cultivation and Puppetry

Wei practices the Myriad Spirits Divine Sense Art and receives the Heavenly Craft Sect’s third-tier puppet inheritance 373.

  • Divine-sense training supports Li Ping’s gradual treatment of her Soul Devouring Restriction 393.
  • Advances in that training at roughly half Feng’s pace during their treatment period 393.
  • Makes little documented progress in Puppet Art and offers evasive excuses when Li Ping asks about her studies 397.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Throwing-knife treasure — Her principal documented weapon during the Nascent Soul lightning tribulation 542.
  • Nascent Soul Transformation Pill — Obtained among the resources seized from Feng’s enemy sect 518.
  • Six Mind-Clearing Pills — Supplied by Li Ping for her Nascent Soul breakthrough preparations 540.
  • Soul-nourishing wood — Given by Li Ping to help restore her damaged divine soul 432.
  • Mysterious One — Third-tier puppet loaned by Li Ping for protection; returned after her Nascent Soul advancement 544.
  • Third-tier puppet inheritance — Jade-slip instruction authorized by Li Ping as part of preserving the Heavenly Craft Sect’s legacy 373.

Relationships

  • Li Ping — Rescuer, healer, intimate partner, and eventual Dao companion. Their early relationship is complicated by pride and misunderstandings; later, he refuses to abandon Wei and Feng when Xiao Yunzhi seeks an exclusive partnership 196 395 432 543 570.
  • Feng Xishuang — Close companion whom she calls her sister, expedition partner, and fellow Heavenly Craft Sect founder. Feng protects Wei in battle; Wei supports Feng’s revenge and later assists her Nascent Soul tribulation 390 511 552.
  • Hua Hong — Junior sectmate who covets her constitution and poisons her after repeated rejection. Li Ping kills him 193 196.
  • Hua Wuji — Former master and late-stage Core Formation Bloodshadow elder associated with Hua Hong. The threat of his retaliation drives her decision to desert the sect 195 196 348.
  • Granny Suyue — Guides Wei after her breakthrough, allowing her to stabilize her Nascent Soul far faster than she could alone 544.
  • Meng Wanjun — Rival for Li Ping’s attention. Meng initially obstructs Wei’s visits; both later identify themselves as his partners 349 396 570.
  • Xiao Yunzhi — Romantic rival. Wei expects Li Ping to choose Xiao over her and is deeply moved when he instead maintains his existing relationships 544.
  • Yun Lingsu — Li Ping’s disciple, whom Wei welcomes with a spiritual hairpin while presenting herself as his Dao companion 570.
  • Ten Thousand Souls High Person — Enemy who attempts to prey on her vulnerable breakthrough. Wei later takes precautions against his possible infiltration of the Heavenly Craft Sect 541 546.
