Geography
The Human Realm has five great regions. Central Province possesses richer fortune of heaven and earth than the other four, making cultivation bottlenecks easier to overcome and supporting more high-level cultivators 203.
| Region / Location | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Central Province | The realm’s historical center, with abundant resources and places preserving ancient landscapes. Its tangled fate and heavenly secrets hinder outside divination 202 203. |
| Eastern Wilderness | Contains domains explored during Zhou Qing’s early cultivation. The Great Cosmos Immortal Dynasty is one of its Three Great Hegemons 202 203. |

| Deep Sea | Contains a threatened inter-realm spatial rift and becomes the focus of the Human Realm’s defensive preparations 257 262 263. |
| Sunset Immortal City | The largest immortal city linking the Eastern Wilderness and Central Province; controlled by the Heavenly Gate Trade Association 203. |
Secret Realms and Ancient Sites
- Secret realms are small worlds independent of the greater world outside. The Human Realm’s secret realms formed naturally and ordinarily cannot be moved 113 219.
- Grotto-heavens and blessed lands were developed by Heavenly Monarchs from existing secret realms, rather than created from nothing. The realm contains thirty-six grotto-heavens and seventy-two blessed lands 219 263.
- Secluded Realm Trial Grounds were established as a contingency against the Demon Abyss Realm, with the goal of nurturing Heavenly Monarchs capable of restoring humanity’s fortunes 203.
- Heavenly Pillar Grotto-Heaven opens every eight hundred years and preserves conditions resembling the Primordial Era, including rare fourth-tier medicines and fifth-tier ancient herbs 228.
- Void Spirit Blessed Land contains exceptional body-tempering resources and an ancient body-cultivation inheritance 234.
History
Ancient Cultivation and Contact with the Upper Realm
During the Primordial Era, the Human Realm retained a higher standing and abundant resources. Its environment offered a faint possibility of producing middle- or late-stage Spirit Transformation cultivators 257.
In early Elder Antiquity, the Ascension Passage functioned normally, and the Human Realm could communicate with the Upper Realm. Cultivation legacies descended through this connection, including the Mountain Sea Lineage. Elder Antiquity is described as the realm’s most glorious age, with flourishing cultivation and abundant fortune of heaven and earth 175 203.
An unknown change later caused the Ascension Passage to collapse, severing the connection. No restoration of contact is reported 175 219.
Demon Abyss Invasion
At the end of Elder Antiquity, the Demon Abyss Realm located the Human Realm and launched a large-scale invasion. Human Heavenly Monarchs, despairing of victory, established contingencies such as the Secluded Realm Trial Grounds to preserve the possibility of a future counterattack 175 203.
The Sword Lord ultimately reversed the war and severed the main passage between realms with a single sword strike. The Human Realm survived, but its victory was Pyrrhic; smaller passages remained behind. The invasion and final battle directly marked the end of Elder Antiquity 148 175.
Recent Antiquity
The Human Realm’s standing declined during Recent Antiquity. Spiritual resources became scarcer, particularly those needed for body refinement, while heaven and earth increasingly suppressed Heavenly Monarchs 203 236 271.
Throughout the hundred thousand years since Recent Antiquity began, the Demon Abyss Realm continued laying covert plans within the Human Realm. Leading factions screened recruits for demonic connections, and Heavenly Monarchs periodically inspected the realm for infiltration 226.
Cultivation Environment
Realm Limits
| Cultivation Rank / Condition | Position within the Human Realm |
|---|---|
| Nascent Soul True Lord | An exceptionally rare regional power. A domain spanning a million li may produce only one or two 219. |
| Late-stage Nascent Soul Grand Cultivator | Considered the practical pinnacle of the realm in Recent Antiquity because Heavenly Monarchs face severe restrictions when acting 203 209. |
| Spirit Transformation Heavenly Monarch | The highest cultivation realm the Human Realm supports. Heavenly Monarchs are legendary even to many fourth-tier Beast Kings 253 271. |
| Middle-stage Spirit Transformation | No cultivator has reached this stage in a hundred thousand years under the Near Ancient Era’s environment 257. |
| Void Refinement | Beyond the Human Realm’s upper limit, including during Elder Antiquity 175 217. |
| Spirit Transformation capacity | Originally limited to five Heavenly Monarchs. Under the renewed Demon Abyss threat, Zhou Qing predicts that the realm’s awakening reserves may break this limit; this is not presented as a completed change 262. |
Suppression by Heaven and Earth
- Restricted combat: Heavenly Monarchs suffer backlash for unleashing their full strength. Even early-stage Heavenly Monarchs can tear apart vast stretches of the weakened realm’s space 203 271.
- Restricted advancement: A fifth-tier middle-grade spirit vein does not overcome the suppression. Zhou Qing finds his Spirit Transformation cultivation almost stagnant, explaining why many Heavenly Monarchs prefer to slumber 259.
- Limited intervention: Heavenly Monarchs ordinarily avoid disputes between lesser cultivators unless their own sect faces annihilation or the entire Human Realm is threatened 230.
- Succession opportunities: A Heavenly Monarch’s death can open a Spirit Transformation opportunity, making the deaths of figures such as Water Moon politically significant 203 246 262.
Consciousness of the Realm
The Human Realm possesses a diffuse awareness governed by instinct rather than distinct emotions. During Zhou Qing’s sixth simulation, its self-preservation instinct awakens under pressure from the Demon Abyss Realm, and hidden reserves begin to stir 262.
Major Powers
Central Province
Central Province’s fifteen supreme powers are collectively known as One Peak, the Two Body Paths, the Three Spell Paths, the Four Associations, and the Five Unorthodox Sects 203.
| Group | Defining Features |
|---|---|
| One Peak | Heavenly Sword Peak, inheritor of the Sword Lord’s legacy. Its name also evokes the highest peak of cultivation in the Human Realm 202. |
| Two Body Paths and Three Spell Paths | Claim ancient supreme body- and spell-cultivation lineages, though few modern cultivators truly attain those standards 203. |
| Four Associations | Include the Heavenly Gate Trade Association, which controls Sunset Immortal City 203. |
| Five Unorthodox Sects | Founded on alchemy, talismans, formations, artifact crafting, and puppetry 203. |
Institutions and Safeguards
- Heavenly Sword Peak — Its Sword Scripture binds practitioners to safeguard the Human Realm and oppose invasion from the Demon Abyss Realm 258.
- Maitreya Hall — Its Buddhist inheritance prevents its Heavenly Monarch from defecting without collapsing the imprints of preceding generations. It is identified as second only to Heavenly Sword Peak among powers certain not to defect 258.
- Heavenly Craft Island — The Human Realm’s center of puppetry, where grandmasters exchange techniques and critique each other’s creations 233.
- Heart-Questioning Trials — Used by leading powers to screen prospective members; demonic ties are a central concern 216 226.
- Ancient non-suppression pact — Protects direct-line disciples of the fifteen supreme powers during breakthrough attempts, but does not automatically cover recent outsiders such as Zhou Qing 246.
Inter-Realm Connections
Upper Realm and Ascension
- Spirit Realm: A super-realm far surpassing the Human Realm, containing ancient legacies, true spirits, and immortal beasts 257.
- Ascension Passage: Formerly the more reliable route upward; its collapse ended normal contact 175 219.
- World-Crossing Immortal Ark: An ancient alternative intended to reach the Upper Realm. A damaged ark survives among the trial grounds’ rewards, but its route had already proved a dead end in Elder Antiquity 219.
- Broken-passage attempts: Zhou Qing knows of earlier failed attempts and chooses not to rush toward ascension after becoming a Heavenly Monarch 257.
Demon Caves and Spatial Rifts
| Passage Type | Known Capacity / Condition |
|---|---|
| Main inter-realm passage | Could accommodate fifth-tier, Spirit Transformation-level Devil Masters; severed by the Sword Lord 175. |
| Smaller surviving passages | Permit third-tier invaders, including unusual individuals with combat strength approaching the fourth tier 175. |
| Infinite Domain Demon Cave | Its seal is assaulted roughly every thousand years, temporarily allowing invaders through 175. |
| Great Snow Mountain rift | Its seal was loosened by the Golden Wheel Grand Cultivator to receive resources from the other side 257. |
| Deep Sea rift | Even with the Heavenly Monarchs maintaining its seal, it is expected to be breached within another thousand or two thousand years 262. |
Renewed Demon Abyss Threat
Defensive Mobilization
During Zhou Qing’s sixth simulation, the discovery of the Deep Sea rift gives the Human Realm time to prepare rather than face an unanticipated invasion 262.
- Cultivators from Foundation Establishment through Nascent Soul are required to serve on the Deep Sea Defense Line 262.
- Leading factions open their resource treasuries, contributing to a surge in Nascent Soul cultivators 262.
- Sixty-nine defensive lines are to be linked into a fifth-tier formation 263.
- Zhou Qing, the realm’s only Formation Path Celestial Master, establishes the formation nodes with assistance from hundreds of fourth-tier Formation Grandmasters 263 265.
Assimilation and Delaying Tactics
The Demon Abyss Realm seeks not merely occupation, but assimilation of the Human Realm through the Demon Abyss Will. Concealment inside grotto-heavens, blessed lands, or the trial grounds would not provide lasting safety after such a conquest 263 267.
In the sixth simulation, Zhou Qing kills multiple invading fifth-tier Devil Lords, then prolongs negotiations with the Purgatory Demon Venerable by pretending to consider surrender. The deception buys several centuries before a Devil Moon Clan seer exposes it. The supplied account records Zhou Qing’s eventual death, but does not establish the Human Realm’s final fate 267 268 270.
