Inside the room, Mulan looked at Farolynch with a very strange expression, while Farolynch looked thoroughly embarrassed.

"Why did you send him to me?"

"Uh, I only mentioned you in passing and gave him a brief explanation of what 'professor' meant. It wasn't intentional."

Farolynch continued making excuses, but Mulan kept staring at him.

"Don't try to dodge the issue with me."

Farolynch maintained his embarrassed expression for another dozen seconds before his face slowly settled back into composure.

"It must have been difficult to make that stiff face of yours look embarrassed."

Mulan spoke evenly. Though Farolynch's face remained impassive, being seen through so easily brought a trace of genuine embarrassment to his eyes this time.

"I think that big fellow, though born of hatred, isn't bad by nature. He's rather innocent, too. Judging by Miss Misfortune's attitude, that alchemist clearly treats him as expendable. But he's already developed a personality. That false promise is a cruel deception!"

Farolynch was a naturally occurring Resurrector, and he had an innate sensitivity to certain nonhuman things. To him, the claim that devouring his enemy's flesh and blood would turn the big fellow human was nothing but a lie.

Of course, alchemy might be miraculous, and perhaps there was a way to achieve it, but Farolynch considered that verbal promise alone far from sufficient.

"Mr. Jonester, you're a professor at Black Castle, an expert in supernatural theory. Tell me honestly: can that big fellow outside really become human by eating his designated enemy's flesh and blood?"

Mulan instinctively glanced at the closed door.

"My research into alchemy isn't particularly extensive, and the other party may well have used some advanced ancient alchemy. I can't say it's absolutely impossible."
