There was not a single real holy relic available for Mulan to experiment on, so his research still had to be primarily theoretical. Naturally, that meant an enormous amount of reading.
In the Grand Library of the Black Castle, Mulan searched for magic books that might contain relevant records. Of course, he still took the necessary precautions to conceal his purpose, so the books he borrowed seemed rather haphazard. But he had always been much like this, interested in all kinds of magic books.
One heavy magic book after another piled up in Mulan's left hand. After a few circuits of the library, he had stacked more than a dozen books, and the pile rose above his head.
"Ah, if only I knew that trick of Walton's."
Holding up the books, Mulan could not help thinking of Walton's ability to hide all sorts of things in his hat and pockets. Unfortunately, that ability was far too advanced for him. It was not something he could casually use across different systems, at least not as a Radiant Knight.
As a professor, Mulan faced no restrictions when borrowing ordinary magic books and reference materials, provided they were not Books of Esoteric Arts or works of an equivalent level. He only needed to register them with the librarian. While he did so, students kept spotting him with delighted surprise.
"Professor Jonester!" "Professor, you're back?"
"Professor, when did you return?"
"When will you teach us again, Professor?"
One female student even boldly called out, "Professor, we missed you so much!"
While waiting for his books to be registered, Mulan responded to most of the students. They were young and full of energy, and considerably more of them had passed the observation period and successfully remained at the Black Castle than had initially been expected.
