The sea monsters were clearly more sensitive to lightning and storms. Many spotted the group carrying Kilga and charged toward them from every direction, while the pirates were slower to react, with many only just reaching the Valentine Police Department.
Scattered gunshots rang out across the city from time to time, but Valentine was no naval port. The officers at the Police Station were among the few organized forces resisting the attack. If the monsters and pirates had not still been pursuing Kilga, many more people in Valentine would have suffered by now.
Bang! Bang!
Leo shot down the two sea monsters coming straight at him, but when he tried to fire again, all he heard was a clicking sound.
"Damn it, I'm out of bullets."
Cursing, Leo lunged forward and kicked the third sea monster, sending it sliding across the rain-soaked street.
"These things look terrifying, but at least they aren't that hard to handle. Do you have any bullets left?"
"No!" "The harbor isn't far!"
The three police officers were already panting for breath, while Kilga was positively bursting with excitement. But more sea monsters and pirates armed with guns and blades soon appeared around them.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The pirates opened fire, forcing Leo and the others to duck into a corner of a house. They were almost out of strength.
"We won't make it to the harbor! There are too many of them!"
One officer shouted. Anything quieter would have been lost in the storm, but before Leo or the others could respond, a faint flash of white light flickered past.
The next instant, the officer's head flew off, blood gushing from his neck. A pirate in a tricorne hat flicked his blade and slowly approached from another direction, smiling at Leo and the others.
