Mulan did not need to be as nervous about getting information from Newt as he had been with the Pirate King. Though their acquaintance had been brief, he understood Newt very well.

Mulan knew that even if Newt was genuinely busy, he would make time for other equally important matters whenever he could spare a moment-such as dealing with a genius whose rise on the seas was inevitable.

So Mulan returned to the long-neglected storeroom and asked the pirates nearby to fetch Newt. He sent several of them in succession, each with a reason so compelling that Newt could not possibly ignore it.

In the secret chamber where they studied the nautical chart, Newt and Nido had brought Leo in and simply tied him to an iron chair.

Though Leo still looked somewhat agitated, his body was terribly weak. He had gone nearly two days without water and almost three without food. His curses all the way here seemed to have exhausted the last of his strength.

"How pathetic. These monsters in human form don't care about my insults at all."

Leo felt utterly miserable. Did he really have to pretend to submit as a slave, get sold to some noblewoman, and then find a chance to escape?

Newt looked at Leo's cracked lips and instructed the man beside him.

"Bring some food and water."

His subordinate immediately obeyed. Before long, two men entered the chamber with a water jug and some bread and meat, deliberately setting them close to Leo but just beyond his reach.

One of them also whispered into Newt's ear.

"Chief, Vincent is looking for you."

"Ignore him."

"But the messenger said he just came back from the King, who told him to be more humble and ask you more questions."

Newt frowned and waved them
