Mulan looked delightedly at the Book of Dawn in his hands. Rather than a magic book he had written, it was a mysterious book he had created beneath the guise of one.

Mulan had also worked out some details of his own ability. Successfully creating the Book of Dawn did not mean he could reproduce it. Fang, the Ring of Light, and the Book of Dawn existed much like a transcendent's resonance, their underlying structures following similar principles. His first two successes had involved chance and circumstance; only the third had been an experiment. At least, overall, he was no longer fumbling blindly.

Mulan glanced at the sky outside the window. The heavy rain had stopped late in the night, and a glimmer of dawn now shone on the distant horizon.

Mulan closed the Book of Dawn, took off his clothes, and lay down to sleep.

This time, Mulan no longer feared his nightmares. He faced everything within them, observed everything within them, and searched all those chaotic dreams for information. He knew he was special-or at least, he was willing to believe he was-and kept reinforcing that belief almost as though hypnotizing himself.

At noon the next day, Mulan got out of bed and stretched contentedly. Though his sleep had still been full of dreams, he had rested well.

He got up, washed, ate brunch, and began preparing his lesson plan. According to his original schedule, he had a class the following morning.

But Mulan knew the students had no classes that afternoon. In fact, they attended classes only four days a week, and usually only in the mornings. He planned to stop by the noticeboard in the main teaching building at noon and post a short announcement: he would teach basic theory to the new students that afternoon
