Mulan followed Walton to the mirror. By then, he had noticed several more mirrors in the distance. Seemingly aware of where Mulan was looking, Walton volunteered an explanation.
"Some of those mirrors are permanent passages to the Otherworld, with guards stationed on both sides. If anyone from Black Castle-or, rather, the forces directly under the royal family-gets lost in the Otherworld, they can try to find those locations. Of course, the mirrors may look close together now, but their locations in the Otherworld are actually extremely far apart, and they keep changing."
Walton smiled as he spoke.
"As you know, there are plenty of unpredictable dangers in the Otherworld. We can't really fix a 'door' in one place. Of course, some mirrors lead to even more wondrous places, such as the Enchanted Forest."
"The Enchanted Forest? So it really exists!"
Mulan had seen the place mentioned in the Magic Book. It was described as a forest brimming with magic. Aside from ordinary plants and animals, it might contain all manner of exotic flora and wondrous creatures. It had once suffered extensive destruction, but now it was protected by exceptionally powerful magic, and its entrance was almost impossible to find.
As far as Mulan knew, the world's main landmasses consisted of two continents and several large continental islands, nearly all within the bounds of human knowledge. Even if unexplored regions remained, they were unlikely to be places like the Enchanted Forest. Of course, it was also possible that everyone had agreed to conceal it.
"Come on, stop staring. You can explore them yourself when you get the chance."
