Bloodlust and hunger

By now, there were hardly any towns or villages on either side of the train. Distant mountains lay on one side, and a wasteland sparsely covered with weeds stretched out on the other. The last light of sunset shone from behind the western slopes, painting the sky beyond the mountains with evening colors, while the wasteland on the other side of the train was already growing dim.

The visceral sensation of that deathly aura had made Mulan deeply uncomfortable. Whatever it was, now that the sun had set, it had begun to awaken from its slumber. That was undoubtedly bad news, but the good news was that it had at least waited until sunset.

Since it still feared the sun, Mulan, as a Radiant Knight, had a certain advantage over the source of that deathly aura.

"Excuse me, I need to get out for a moment."

Mulan nudged the young man dozing in the seat beside him. Once the man opened his eyes, he hurriedly shifted aside. Mulan stood and passed him, then turned back to say something.

"You'd better not fall asleep."

Not long after Mulan stood up, Handel noticed his movements from the other end of the carriage. As Mulan passed him, he gave Handel a discreet nod. By the time Mulan reached the next carriage, Handel had followed him.

"Professor, is something wrong?"

By now, Handel had fully adjusted to his role as a student and rarely addressed Mulan as "sir." He only used it when acknowledging important orders from Mulan.

"Something isn't right. Watch your surroundings. There may be an Undead here."

Handel's heart tightened. Undead were more troublesome than Evil Spirits. Although Evil Spirits were stranger and more terrifying, most of them could not truly "return," whereas Undead were genuine inhabitants of the physical world.
