Toru Kujyo stood up and calmly regarded the female Jonin before him. Hinata hurried to her feet as well, lowering her head shyly.
"Where's Shino Aburame?" Kurenai Yuhi glanced around and noticed that someone was missing.
Toru shifted his gaze toward a corner of the classroom. No one was there, only a few barely visible insects crawling across the floor. "He probably already headed to the meeting place in his own way."
Kurenai raised an eyebrow, a faint smile of appreciation crossing her face. "Interesting kid. Well then, let's get going too."
Toru and Hinata nodded and followed Kurenai out of the classroom. Hinata stole a glance at Toru's profile, her heart brimming with anticipation for the future and a trace of nervousness. With Toru and our new teacher, Kurenai, who looks so capable, our team is sure to become strong!
Toru, Hinata, and Shino followed Kurenai out of the classroom, through the streets of Konoha, and finally arrived at a spacious outdoor Training Ground. Lush vegetation surrounded them, and birdsong occasionally drifted from the woods. It was peaceful and secluded, an excellent place to train.
Kurenai stopped beneath a large tree and turned to face the three of them. Her narrow eyes swept over Toru's composure, Hinata's shyness, and Shino's reserve, and a knowing smile curved her lips. "All right, kids. Starting today, I'll be your Team 8 Elite Jonin, Kurenai Yuhi. And I'll be staying in that role for the long haul." Her voice had a languid, resonant quality, but brooked no argument.
"Since we'll be spending so much time together, let's start with a quick introduction. I'll go first." Kurenai lightly smoothed her long, wine-red hair, her manner casual yet elegant. "My name is Kurenai Yuhi, and my specialty is Genjutsu. You'll get to know that very well in the days ahead. As for what I like... that's a secret. I dislike rude, ill-mannered people. My dream..." She paused briefly and looked into the distance, a flicker of resolve in her eyes. "Is to become a kunoichi like Lady Tsunade, both powerful and respected."
When she finished, she turned her gaze to Toru, signaling for him to continue.
Toru stepped forward, his voice calm and clear. "My name is Toru Kujyo. My specialty is Ninjutsu. Right now, I'm proficient in Fire Release and Wind Release, and I also know a little medical Ninjutsu and sensory techniques. I like training and improving myself through combat. My dream is to become an outstanding ninja and protect everything I hold dear." His words were brief, but they conveyed a composure and confidence beyond his years.
A hint of appreciation flashed in Kurenai's eyes. She nodded, then gestured to Hinata.
Hinata leaned forward slightly, her cheeks flushing. Her voice was barely louder than a mosquito's hum, but she tried hard to make herself heard by everyone. "I... my name is Hinata Hyuga. My specialties are sensing and... my clan's Gentle Fist. I like training with Toru... and everyone else. My dream is also to become... an outstanding ninja." As she finished, her gaze drifted involuntarily toward Toru, her admiration and attachment impossible to hide.
Kurenai caught every one of Hinata's little gestures. A knowing smile lifted the corners of her mouth, and amusement entered her eyes. She said nothing about it, merely turning her gaze to Shino, who had remained silent throughout.
Shino adjusted his sunglasses. His voice was low and hoarse, with an oddly resonant quality. "My name is Shino Aburame. My specialties are sensing and my clan's secret techniques. My insects can provide me with a great deal of information. I like searching for unusual insects. My dream is to discover more new species and help them evolve to become stronger." He spoke calmly, as though describing something perfectly ordinary, yet his words left the others with a distinct sense of mystery.
Kurenai surveyed the three of them with satisfaction and smiled. "Very good. You all seem like interesting kids. Now that introductions are out of the way, let's get down to business." Her smile faded, and her gaze sharpened. "Tomorrow morning at nine, right here. We'll be conducting a survival exercise. It'll be a capture challenge, and your opponent will be me."
Before her words had fully faded, Kurenai's figure blurred before their eyes like a phantom. In an instant, she vanished, giving them no chance to ask any questions.
Only Toru, Hinata, and Shino remained at the Training Ground. Tension hung in the air.
"She... she just left like that?" Hinata anxiously clenched the hem of her jacket.
"Interesting." Shino's voice broke the silence. He turned to Toru, an undisguised hint of probing in his tone. "What do you think her real intention is? Is this really just a simple capture challenge?" The insects on his body seemed to stir as well, as though awaiting Toru's answer. Shino had deliberately concealed some of his abilities during the graduation assessment. Now, he wanted to use this opportunity to gauge Toru's insight.
Toru gazed in the direction where Kurenai had disappeared, his eyes thoughtful. He did not answer Shino immediately. Only after several seconds did he speak slowly. "She isn't simply testing our Taijutsu or Ninjutsu abilities. The real core of a survival exercise is intelligence analysis, tactical planning, and teamwork. She gave us plenty of time to prepare. That itself is a hint."
He turned to Shino and Hinata, his gaze calm and confident. "If this were only a test of strength, she could start at any time instead of waiting until tomorrow. This exercise is meant to see how we use the resources available to us, how we understand and carry out a mission, and how we build trust and cooperation within the team."
As Hinata listened to Toru's analysis, her eyes shone, her admiration plain on her face. Shino also fell into thought. He had assumed Toru was merely an exceptionally gifted ninja, never expecting his analytical abilities to be so sharp. Toru had not only seen through Kurenai's deeper intentions, but had thought even further ahead than Shino himself. Shino inwardly sighed. Toru's leadership and insight were indeed superior to his own.
"Then what's your plan?" Shino dropped his probing manner, a note of acknowledgment entering his voice. It was an unmistakable acceptance of Toru as their leader.
Toru looked at both of them and said earnestly, "Before we develop our tactics, we need a deeper understanding of each other's best techniques, chakra characteristics, and the actual effects of those techniques. Only then can we find the best way to work together and bring out our team's full potential."
The three gathered close and began discussing quietly. Toru first explained the characteristics of his Fire Release and Wind Release, along with the support his sensory and medical techniques could provide. Hinata then described in detail how the Hyuga Gentle Fist attacked and the sensory range of her Byakugan.
