"Where did you go wrong?"
Arthur asked with a smile.
"We shouldn't have gotten greedy."
"We shouldn't have taken the canes from Tate's Cane Shop."
Hunter and Newt spoke in turn.
Facing Arthur, who could use Mediumship, neither dared conceal anything. Besides, that very morning, the Count had signed an order granting Arthur the privileges of a First-Rank Police Officer.
That alone proved the Count's trust in Arthur.
And a First-Rank Police Officer already had the authority to dismiss any Patrol Officer.

"What else?"
"Huh?"
The two froze, and Maltz, standing beside them, could no longer hold back.
"Huh? What do you mean, huh?!"
The old Chief kicked each of them in the backside, angrily berating them.
"You don't even know what you can take and what you can't, you ignorant bastards! You're both losing three months' pay."
As he scolded them, the old Chief discreetly sought Arthur's opinion with a hand gesture.
Only after confirming that Arthur had no objections did he make the decision.
Arthur knew all too well what South Los's Patrol Officers were like.
Anyone else brought in to replace them would be the same.
They might even be worse.
Better to keep these two.
Of course, this certainly wasn't because two men who had made mistakes would be easier to control. The young Medium had simply chosen to follow South Los's rules.
That really was all there was to
