Because this was exactly what he wanted.
Malinda had kept Horton's connection to the New Death Poetry Society hidden all along, and Arthur had been so forthcoming with Potteriman for one reason.
He was worried that the Left Cantor of the Death Poetry Society would "follow" him.
Given the fanaticism and anticipation the man had displayed, that was highly likely.
He certainly would not follow Arthur openly, but having him lurking in the shadows would still make Arthur deeply uncomfortable.
