Visiting their elders!
The earliest Wintertide Festival had no such tradition, but the long holiday left many people with nothing to do, and visiting one another became their favorite pastime.
Then, as time passed, it gradually evolved into a custom of paying visits to one's elders as well as spending time with one's peers.
This was known as Wintertide Courtesy.
By the Pioneer Era, Wintertide Courtesy had become more specific.
Because-
People brought gifts when they visited.
Especially when visiting elders, they brought somewhat more valuable gifts.
And the elders gave gifts in return.
Many people said it was a trap devised by those crafty merchants.
Others believed it was a way to strengthen family ties.
Arthur didn't particularly care either way.
He was fine with pretty much anything, something of an amusement seeker.
Still, with more XP in mind, Arthur felt he ought to visit his elders in South Los.
After all, those two elders of his were anything but ordinary.
For example, Grandma Susan.
For example, Aunt Camille.
Arthur believed that during this dull Wintertide Festival, the reporters of South Los must be starving for news. All he needed to do was stir up a little commotion, and they would come swarming.
Of course, crafty as Arthur was, even if that was what he wanted, he would never openly tell Malinda.
He had to approach it indirectly.
It wasn't just a matter of keeping the initiative. Arthur really had never heard Malinda talk about her family.
If he didn't take advantage of such a good opportunity, how could Arthur call himself a competent Medium?
Yet after hearing Arthur's question, Malinda was remarkably calm-
"My father killed himself.
My mother killed herself too.
Most of my elders were burned to death.
