Arthur swallowed the refusal that had already risen to his lips.
He studied Fontel, who stood before him.
Although Fontel wore a top hat, strands of hair still poked out from beneath it. His hair would clearly be a tangled mess if he took it off. His clothes were made of fine fabric but badly wrinkled, plainly not ironed in some time. Up close, they gave off a faint sour smell of sweat. His shoes, which should have been clean and polished, were covered in stains-not just mud, but what looked like horse manure, too.
His eyes, in particular, were red and bloodshot. After saying only one sentence to Arthur, he kept blinking involuntarily.
Clearly, he was extremely nervous.
The flickering skills [Keen Eyes] and [Reading People] allowed Arthur to quickly gather information about Fontel.
Arthur's impression of Fontel still dated back to when he had paid twenty Gold Tickets in compensation. Back then, Fontel had been a typical idle, thrill-seeking rich young man.
But now?
Not only was he in a sorry state, he was somehow connected to Oak Manor.
Even though Malinda had spent last night with Arthur and had only just left, he still suspected that she and Fontel had arranged this performance together.
Wasn't this too much of a coincidence?
He needed golden acorns, and now Oak Manor needed his help?
Arthur frowned.
Still, he invited Fontel into 2 Kirk Street.
"Mr. Credos, please help me!"
The young man repeated his plea as soon as he entered the Medium's Hall.
"Don't rush. Please sit down and tell me everything."
"I need to know exactly what happened."
Arthur raised a hand and gently patted the young man's shoulder, prompting him to explain.
Pendragon had woken up by then. After eating a bowl of cat food, the cat
