In Marian's room, Arthur, Albers, and Maltz watched Gilt rush in. Marian and Lammit lay on the floor, already bound and gagged.
Smoke still curled from the muzzle of the flintlock in Maltz's hand.
Gilt froze for a moment, then asked with a look of bewilderment.
"What happened?"
"Why have you tied up Lammit and Marian?"
The lord's second son's voice grew louder, but he retreated step by step. Outside in the corridor, however, the old butler, Fontel, and Andy were already waiting.
Still, the lord's second son did not panic. He was about to say something more.
Clearly, he had not given up yet.
But Arthur had no desire to wait any longer.
He spoke first.
"All right, all right!"
"Your father has already told me how you pushed him down the steps, then conspired with Marian to kill him-look, your father is standing right beside you, watching you!"
The lord's second son immediately whipped his head from side to side, looking around him, and stumbled back a step in fright.
When he found nothing, he roared.
