Ⅰ
After closing the door, Mr. Smith maintained his earlier solemn expression-
"It's even more chaotic outside than I expected.
A riot broke out at St. Joan's Girls' Academy. Kilger Harbor's police and Secret Detectives suffered heavy losses, and the entire Inner Bay has now begun mobilizing.
But that takes time.
For at least the next two days, Kilger Harbor will be very unsafe."
Mr. Smith explained to his wife while silently apologizing.
Of course, it wasn't all a lie.
Mr. Smith really had just seen some ill-intentioned men prowling around the inn.
They had merely chosen to retreat for the time being after seeing the inn attendant's flintlock.
But only for the time being.
Those hyena-like men wouldn't give up.
Those bastards were biding their time.
Waiting for...
Nightfall.
That was Mr. Smith's assessment.
Mrs. Smith quickly caught on.
"Someone wants to take advantage of the chaos to loot?"
"It's not just someone.
Everyone capable of it is thinking about it.
So I need to leave for a while just before nightfall."
Mr. Smith looked apologetically at his wife.
Mrs. Smith threw her arms around her husband.
Of course she knew why her husband was leaving before nightfall-to keep her safe and make sure those men planning to loot after dark never showed up.
An impulse surged through Mrs. Smith.
She wanted to reveal her true identity.
But she immediately suppressed that impulse.
Death!
That damned bastard!
She cursed inwardly.
By now, Mrs. Smith was certain that bastard Death had manipulated everyone yet again. Otherwise, how could he have been so sure the Blood Scion would appear?
Everything had been part of his scheme.
And her?
She was merely one link in it.
The sad thing was that she had no idea where her link fit.
Was she important?
