All right, his name was actually Sa Tong. Back to the story.
Sa Tong was born into the Yonghe, one of the Demon Race's clans in the Southern Continent. The Yonghe ranked among the greatest of its great clans. Even the Owl Race, which had produced Azure Owl, the Southern Continent's ruler, could not match its long history.
The Yonghe were native to the Southern Continent, so even after the Owl Race became its true masters, successive Owl Race leaders could only adopt a conciliatory approach toward these powerful native clans.
Sa Tong did not belong to the Yonghe's direct line, but neither was he exactly from a collateral branch. To be precise, his father was the Yonghe clan chief's cousin. Even so, Sa Tong had secured a respectable position in the Southern Capital.
He was one of the Southern Capital Camp's six chief generals. This was the Southern Capital, after all, one of the Demon Dynasty's Five Capitals. Administratively, it ranked only half a level below the Central Capital, the Demon Capital. In practical terms, the Southern Capital was the heart of all the Demon Race's cities and tribes in the Southern Continent. Anyone who thrived here would be considered a major figure in the provinces, let alone someone like Sa Tong, who commanded an entire army.
Unfortunately, Sa Tong's luck had been rather poor. Born into a great clan, he could originally have relied on his family connections to coast along in the Southern Capital Camp for a few decades, then perhaps secure a transfer to serve as Territorial Commander over part of the Yonghe's lands.
Territorial Commander might not sound particularly impressive, but the five great continents-east, west, south, north, and central-formed the heartland of
