The voyage at sea was undeniably boring. There was nothing but sea everywhere. Some passengers who were clearly on their first boat ride were excited at first, but after just a few days, they lost interest and settled into drinking and singing merrily in the lower cabins.
Cheng Yu found it rather irritating, not because he was aloof, but because those drunks were genuinely a public nuisance.
At first, Cheng Yu could watch all those different people with the playful detachment of someone taking in the many faces of life.
But come evening, those rough old fellows kept drinking and boasting without a care. On top of that, the lower cabins had poor soundproofing, so Cheng Yu often couldn't fall asleep until late at night.
Then, the next morning, those impressive fellows who could fall asleep instantly amid deafening noise would get up early and start communicating at the top of their lungs again.
Of course, that was their way of life. Cheng Yu didn't look down from on high and call it barbaric or anything, because this was simply one of life's many faces. It was just that he had stood too high above it before, whereas now he was only an ordinary person.
And although those rough old fellows were loud, they weren't bad at heart. They didn't ostracize Cheng Yu for not fitting in; instead, they repeatedly invited him to join their drinking sessions, invitations he could only decline.
In short, Cheng Yu didn't blame those rude but endearing people. He only blamed himself for not having enough money. If he had a little more, he could have gone upstairs and enjoyed some peace and quiet.
He had chosen this place himself and had no right to demand that everyone else stay quiet. He could only adapt.
