The days that followed gradually settled into a steady rhythm.
Snow Spirit's and Cheng Yu's lives gradually intertwined, becoming one. Whenever work or something else kept them from having dinner together, the other would wait for them to come home.
The cramped little room Snow Spirit lived in no longer seemed so cramped.
Although they talked less, they gradually grew more in sync in certain things.
Click.
The old door opened.
Snow Spirit was sitting at the dining table, bored out of her mind.
Her eyes lit up at the sight of him.
"Yuyu, you're home!"
As she spoke, Snow Spirit stood and helped Cheng Yu take off his coat.
She looked at the flecks of snow on it.
Then Snow Spirit looked out at the pitch-black night sky and asked,
"Is it snowing? It hadn't started when I got back."
Cheng Yu smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, pretty heavily, too. Maybe when we wake up tomorrow morning, everything will be covered in white."
After brushing the snow off Cheng Yu's coat and hanging it up, Snow Spirit said longingly,
"Yeah, it sounds beautiful just thinking about it."
As they sat down, Cheng Yu said with a smile,
"You've lived here for so many years. Don't tell me this is your first time seeing snow?"
Snow Spirit shook her head.
"No. It's just that I was always alone before. But this year is different. This year, I have you with me."
Cheng Yu was almost getting used to these direct hits to the heart. He smiled and said,
"Let's eat first."
They soon finished dinner. While washing the dishes, the two were drawn to the streetlights coming on outside the window and the lights glowing in countless homes.
Beneath the flickering lights, huge, feathery snowflakes filled the sky.
