The ice and snow melted rapidly, sending up great clouds of steam. Akainu hurtled across the ice, sharp slashes relentlessly assailing his body.
"Boom!"
A few breaths later, an explosion rang out, and Akainu vanished into the white steam.
"Bubble, bubble!"
Scalding bubbles rose from the magma. As it dripped onto the ice, great clouds of white steam instantly billowed up.
"River!!"
"Twenty years, and you're still just as arrogant. Do you think you're invincible?"
The magma gathered back into human form. Having forcibly brought himself to a stop on the ice, Akainu raised his head, his eyes cold and menacing.
Half his body had turned to magma. White steam rose endlessly beside him, obscuring the sky behind him.
Yet it was clear that, despite taking River's attack head-on, he had suffered few injuries.
"This is Marine Headquarters, Marineford!"
"This is Marine territory, not somewhere a self-righteous traitor like you can come swaggering in with a bunch of rabble!"
His words were icy, but his eyes blazed with fury.
He could settle every grudge, old and new, right here. To him, nothing could be more perfect, and the prospect filled him with genuine excitement.
"Beating that old man Whitebeard when he already had one foot in the grave really went to your head!"
Stepping forward, Akainu raised his right hand and aimed it at River, his voice chilling.
The next second, countless meteor-like masses of magma erupted from his hand. Searing heat burst forth as they streaked through the air, raising the temperature around them.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
In an instant, countless crimson meteors traced arcs through the sky, screaming toward River.
River's eyes narrowed slightly, and he swung his long blade again and again.
