As Lü Yinlin spoke, he looked at Chu Wushang and Wei Yan. "You two stay here and protect him. If he wakes, have him come see me immediately."
"Yes, Old Ancestor!" Wei Yan promptly cupped his fists and answered.
"Yes," Chu Wushang replied calmly as well.
At that moment, Lü Yinlin's figure beneath the moonlight abruptly turned into a blur of azure shadow and vanished without a trace.
Seeing Lü Yinlin leave, Wei Yan dropped to his knees with a thump and called out chokingly, "This disciple Wei Yan bids farewell to Old Ancestor!" He knew that once Lü Yinlin left, they would never meet again in this lifetime.
It took Wei Yan quite some time to compose himself. He wiped his nose, sat cross-legged at the edge of the altar, and stared unwaveringly at Duan Rong.
Since Old Ancestor had ordered him to protect Duan Rong, having accepted the command, he had to fulfill his duty faithfully.
Chu Wushang's eyes shifted. He had not expected Wei Yan, usually so indolent, to cast off his usual demeanor and become so bright-eyed and focused. Chu Wushang glanced once more at Duan Rong, who sat as motionless as a stone carving beneath the moonlight, then sat cross-legged at the other end of the altar as well.
In truth, seeing Wei Yan so conscientiously guarding Duan Rong made Chu Wushang somewhat unwilling to remain here any longer. Wei Yan might have been a scoundrel, but he was still a Cave Illumination Realm expert. Protecting Duan Rong should not have been a problem.
But when Old Ancestor left, he had specifically named him. No matter how unwilling he was, he had to stay here.
