A golden-green light swept across space, and the Gene-Chain Collapse Reaction began again. Vast numbers of Tyranid Bio-ships caught in the chain reaction dissolved into dust, yielding better results than the Dimensional Rumble Cannons' salvo.
But... it did not work as well as Boss Slick had imagined. It failed to kill every Tyranid Bio-ship in one stroke; the Great Devourer had come prepared, too.
Behind the internal carapace of every Tyranid Bio-ship lay a metallic blocking layer. Just before the C'tan Shard Cannon struck, that layer extended outward, doing everything possible to stop the chain reaction from jumping between ships.
Without the element of surprise this time, the Great Devourer had prepared more thoroughly, leaving the C'tan Shard Cannon's results short of expectations.
Boss Slick narrowed his eyes slightly. Fighting the Great Devourer's swarm really was difficult. The swarm evolved too quickly, and the actual damage fell far short of his estimates, which would hamper the coming offensive.
The two targeted attacks had destroyed seventy thousand of the hundred thousand Tyranid Fleet ships on the right flank, leaving thirty thousand damaged. Given how quickly the Tyranids reacted, the Bio-ship Fleet behind them would soon replace those losses.
It was hard to keep relying on a single trick with area-effect weapons the way he once had.
Still... the warship Boss Slick's Ship remained invincible.
When it came to maneuvering and command, Boss Slick gave it some calm thought and concluded that he could never compete with the Great Devourer in either.
Even though he had already surpassed the level of a demigod, with a stronger soul and greater mental capacity, he still could not compete with a collective intelligence made up of trillions upon trillions of Tyranid creatures.
