Under the influence of this single consciousness, ripples spread through the Swarm Consciousness's collective sea of minds. Many minds felt that the aberrant consciousness was right: devouring was what mattered.
"Expending vast amounts of biomass to reconnect with the Great Devourer is a mistake. We should merge into one and become stronger. Only then can we better achieve our goal."
"Too many things that should not exist have already appeared on our dining table. That superior biomass and those genes belong to us! Our consciousness is the true will of consumption!"
The Swarm Consciousness panicked. Towering waves surged through the collective sea of minds, shaking its own consciousness into instability. It intended to track down the source of the aberrant consciousness and destroy its physical body first, thereby calming the storm within the collective sea of minds.
The source was soon found... it was the new unit currently being hatched.
This isn't right. Its brain hasn't even fully formed, so how can it already have a consciousness? Could it be... that the influence of magical energy has given every segment of its body a consciousness of its own?
When did it gain consciousness? When did it break away from the collective mind and become independent?
The Swarm Consciousness felt that the newly hatched unit was already out of control. It immediately ordered the Hatchery Pool to cease operations and shut down the nutrient supply and placenta to kill the new unit.
The order was rejected at once. The Hatchery Pool had broken away and refused the Swarm Consciousness's command.
Before the even worse news could reach the Swarm Consciousness's logic center, its consciousness was torn apart. The peaceful, harmonious sea of Tyranid minds shattered into tiny streams of consciousness.
Just as these small, newly independent streams were about to develop
