The radar station in Capello had actually detected the Daft Air Corps ahead of time. Daft's little tricks had not fooled its radar, and the Ork Planes had no stealth capabilities.
But when the radar station sent word to the Command Centre that unidentified aircraft were approaching Capello, the report was ignored.
The Command Centre was at its busiest. Who had time to worry about unidentified aircraft? Troops numbering in the tens of thousands and their equipment were being transported along the air routes, keeping every airfield swamped.
The unidentified aircraft were probably just a malfunction in the radar station's systems. Even if nothing was malfunctioning, it had to be a failure to coordinate with the control tower, with some Planetary Defense Force aircraft straying outside their assigned routes.
All the radar station needed to do was coordinate with the control tower and correct the error, though the tower was probably too busy to help cross-check anything right now.
What if those aircraft outside their routes wanted to land? What else could they do? Get to the back of the queue! It was their own fault for straying off course. With everyone this busy, breaking the rules only made more work for the control tower staff!
No one had considered the possibility that the Orks had formed an air force. By conventional reasoning, that was understandable.
They were a bunch of barbarians who hacked at tanks with axes, even if they really were ingenious enough to repair human vehicles for their own use.
But that was all simple technology. Aircraft and air forces were high-tech military assets. Could the Orks have put those together in just a few months? Not a single officer or staff officer in the Planetary Defense Force believed it.
Even the radar station personnel who had
