Only the Three Human Emperors and their attendant boys resided in Fire Cloud Palace. Charged with anchoring the Human Race's fortune, the Three Sovereigns never left the mountain.
Yet it was not the three of them themselves who anchored that fortune. One or two people alone could never hold down the fortune of the vast Human Race. The key was the Human Race's supreme treasure they guarded-the Kongtong Seal.
The Three Sovereigns' merit aligned with the fortune of the human path, allowing them to enter Fire Cloud Palace and preserve their souls undying.
Below the Three Sovereigns were the Five Emperors, but their merit was insufficient. Although they could enter Fire Cloud Palace, they could not remain conscious.
They could only lodge their souls within the Kongtong Seal, nourishing it with their own merit so that it could unleash greater power.
At that moment, the Three Sovereigns sat around the Kongtong Seal. A dragon and phoenix intertwined atop the seal, the faces of the Five Emperors adorned the four sides of its base, and beneath it were talismanic inscriptions of the Great Dao-the two characters for "Kongtong."
Holding the Kongtong Seal, Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan said, "Shaohao established his institutions through phoenix birds, creating civil and military offices, each with its own duties. Now the First Emperor has ennobled a chicken as a lord, unknowingly aligning with his path. His soul has a place to rest."
He touched the Kongtong Seal with a finger. Shaohao's face instantly vanished from it, and a point of light floated into the air.
"Zhuanxu created a calendar, and Di Ku established the solar terms. A descendant has used Zhuanxu's calendar and those solar terms as the foundation for the Wan Nian Calendar. Their souls have a place to rest."
Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan touched it again.
