By the time Lin Fu woke up, Shen Lian had already nailed three takes outside.
"Get a move on." Zhao Wenshu was in an excellent mood. "Watch out-the next generation might overtake you and leave you with nowhere to stand."

In terms of characterization, unlike Lu Xiaokai, who said whatever came to mind and wore every emotion on his face, the protagonist, Feng Zheng, was quiet and reserved. Early on, he always seemed burdened by worries, his gaze forever turned toward somewhere beyond Small Town.
Lu Xiaokai, on the other hand, was happy just to land a job or two repairing appliances. When he earned more, he saved a little; when he earned less, he spent less. He often bought cigarettes for Feng Zheng, too. Both had lost their parents young and had supported each other growing up, forging a deep bond.
Lu Xiaokai had only just come of age, and his face still brimmed with youthful innocence. He came up behind Feng Zheng and tapped his shoulder, then circled around to sit on his other side. Fishing a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, he said, "Here."
Feng Zheng took it without ceremony, a heartfelt smile appearing on his pale, cold face. "How much did you make today?"
"A little over a hundred." Lu Xiaokai looked somewhat bashful. "I've got another job tomorrow. Once I finish, I'll buy some pork head meat to bring back."
"Nice work, Xiaokai!"
Lu Xiaokai scratched his head. "I'm still nowhere near your level, Feng."
Indeed, Lu Xiaokai could only make small amounts, while Feng Zheng
