Jiang Yumiao introduced it with a smile. "Today's Lika's beach theater festival. This is their seaside theater, and there's a play here in a little while. I watched the trailer and read the synopsis, and it looked really good, so I wanted to watch it with you."
Naturally, Ning Chunchi had no objections. He had never watched a play in an open-air seaside setting like this, either.
The outdoor theater sought harmony with nature. Its stage seemed to blend into its surroundings, with nature itself serving as the finest lighting designer.
The two found their seats and sat down.
As they waited for the play to begin, Jiang Yumiao seemed a little uneasy. His gaze wandered, and his hands rested on his thighs, unconsciously rubbing the fabric of his clothes.
At three thirty that afternoon, the performance officially began.
Today's performance at the seaside theater was an original play about a boy living on a remote island who happened to obtain a book. From its pages, he learned of a princess in a distant kingdom.
The princess was intelligent, kind, and exceptionally quick-witted. Though the royal family had never favored her, she still embraced life, placing a bouquet by the window or fresh fruit on the table every day, greeting each new morning with the fragrance of flowers and fruit.
After coming of age, however, the princess repeatedly opposed the king's foolish decisions, and in a fit of rage, he locked her in a tower. During her confinement, someone plotted against her and poisoned her. Though she narrowly survived, she lost her sense of smell entirely. She spent her days in a dim room, unable to smell any fragrance ever again.
The book's final page ended there, without saying what became of the princess-whether she died in despair or resolved
