Chris gave orders to select reliable men from the several thousand people still in the prisoner-of-war camp and form five transport teams. Each team would have a hundred guards, forty two-wheeled horse carts, a hundred handcarts, and over two hundred laborers.

It was an experimental order, but the response was far more enthusiastic than Chris had expected. Almost overnight, all five hundred guard positions across the five transport teams were filled, while three times as many laborers signed up as were needed.

At the suggestion of Isaac and the others, Chris gave it some thought, then opened up more positions, increasing the number of transport teams to ten.

The same thing happened again: the five additional transport teams filled their ranks in a single morning.

The officials under Chris offered another suggestion, proposing that he expand the transport teams to twenty. This time, however, he rejected it, deciding that ten teams were enough.

Chris now knew that the prisoners were willing to support him and that he could form more transport teams, but he needed to keep some manpower in Bolas to work... for instance, to form a second infantry regiment or a construction corps.
