The more frequent the assassination attempts, the better the Inquisitor was doing. The better he did, the fiercer the attempts became, and the fiercer they became, the more leverage Chris gained for taking action.
So Chris did not mind the assassination attempts at all. In fact, he felt the more, the better.
As it turned out, Inquisitor Street-Sweeper was doing a very good job indeed. In the half month since Judgment Day ended, he had led a large group of players through the towns and villages, traveling from Votradnoi to Ankandela, from towns to farms, from mountain forests to mines, fighting one small battle after another.
Unlike the assassination attempts Chris faced in the city, what Street-Sweeper encountered outside it were successive clashes with bandits, villagers, and private troops maintained by local strongmen.
Head-on clashes, ambushes, villagers poisoning them-Street-Sweeper and the players who had gone along for the fun had encountered everything. It also let them kill to their hearts' content. In half a month, they had slaughtered more than two thousand people.
That certainly qualified as making heads roll.
Apart from Street-Sweeper, who was well protected as the Inquisitor, practically every player accompanying him had died at least once.
The fiercest and most disastrous incident had been when over two hundred foreign mercenaries surrounded Street-Sweeper in a small town. The battle lasted all night and cost him a hand and an eye.
Perhaps that experience had made Street-Sweeper even more unhinged. Before, he had at least gone through the motions of investigating, and afterward, he would leave the elderly and children of the onlookers' families a way out rather than take things to the extreme.
Now he simply took his list and led his people straight to the local strongmen's homes, killing without a word.
So much so that
