After learning the details, Chris decided that the man inside the castle was a fool. The most infuriating part was that this fool not only wanted to die himself, but wanted to drag a hundred or so people down with him.

When Chris said this to Connie, everyone nearby knew that the Prince had given up on the lives of everyone inside the castle.
Judging by the Inquisitor's past conduct, every one of those peasants inside the castle who had dared to take up arms in resistance would meet the same end: death.
Everyone understood that perfectly well, but none of them, Isaac included, considered trying to persuade Chris or the Inquisitor to stop... there were many reasons for that. One was to make an example of them, and another was fear of Chris's increasingly brutal behavior.
