Thousand-Blade Butcher liked war.
Don't get the wrong idea. Thousand-Blade Butcher was neither a general nor a soldier. He was just a player, a food merchant who owned a factory specializing in meat products.
He liked war simply because it was good for business... Just recently, Thousand-Blade Butcher had sold a hundred thousand cans of pork to the Defense Force and made a tidy fortune.
And he had a feeling that this deal was only the beginning, not the end. He had already put his food-processing factory in Hegrande on overtime, churning out canned pork so he could make another killing once war broke out.
Bagnia had pigs, and plenty of them. Even before Prince Chris united the kingdom, Bagnians had enjoyed raising pigs or heading into the mountains with boar spears to hunt wild boars.
Pork was the most common meat on Bagnian tables. Both rich and poor ate it; the difference was that the former ate farm-raised pork, while the latter ate wild boar from the mountain forests.
But regardless of the type of pig, its meat had a foul, gamey smell. The only difference was how strong it was. There were several reasons for that smell: first, improper slaughtering methods, with pigs killed without being bled; second, the pigs were never castrated.
That situation lasted until Prince Chris brought in the players. Some of them preferred farming and trade to fighting, and once they understood the situation, they recognized an enormous business opportunity.
Thousand-Blade Butcher was one of them. He topped up his account with a little cigarette money, found a hillside with a stream near Bolas Fortress, and hired people to build a wooden pig farm. Then he took three or four friends into the mountains with spears and hunting nets to find wild boars.
