Gritting his teeth, he simply confessed. "But, Lord Personal Guard, what he said... I really am a Deacon of the Blood Demon Society. Why would you...?"
He could not understand at all why Li Chen had not killed him.
Li Chen looked down at him, the faintest hint of a smile seemingly touching his lips. His voice was quiet, yet carried absolute command. "Whose Deacon you were before doesn't matter. What matters is whom you choose to serve now. To me, that is enough."

No matter how hypocritical and cunning Carlos had been in the past, after this sudden passage from hell to heaven, faced with absolute power and this "trust" that "let bygones be bygones," the awe and loyalty he felt now would be beyond question.

He bowed again, pressing his head deeply to the ground, his voice choked yet utterly resolute. "I understand! From this day onward, my life belongs entirely to you, my lord! I would die ten thousand deaths without hesitation!"
Li Chen nodded slightly and left him with a deeply meaningful remark. "You must understand: without utter darkness as a contrast, how could people feel how precious and absolute the light is?"
