History

Succession Crisis

The Li founding emperor captured the city from the previous dynasty. Generations later, powerful hereditary families remained deeply embedded in its businesses and government; the Wang Family had held distinguished standing under both dynasties 152.

The Crown Prince’s sudden death in the capital, followed by the Previous Emperor’s death, created a succession crisis. The other princes initially stayed away for fear of being suspected in the Crown Prince’s murder. As the only royal prince remaining in the city, Li Chen was placed on the throne by the Empress Dowager, who expected his lack of political connections to make him an ideal puppet 1 2.

Second Prince Li Xian returned and challenged the succession before the court. Li Chen’s revelation of his Saint Realm cultivation overturned the attempt and undermined the Empress Dowager’s plans to control him 2.

Investigations and Crackdowns

After Li Xian’s rebellion became established fact, Lin Yue’e arrested members of his faction. The capital’s County Yamen filled with detainees, and former supporters feared further punishment 120.

Sasanian agents operating as merchants repeatedly scouted the Imperial Clan Forbidden Grounds, intending to steal the Li clan’s Emperor Weapon. Li Chen followed their network, killed Amir, and captured Qasim. The Imperial Guards arrested more than thirty suspects, and Li Chen subsequently declared war on the Sasanian Dynasty 152 153.

Minister of Justice Pang Jin later launched a coordinated nighttime operation against the Wang Family and Former Dynasty Remnants. Fighting spread across businesses, residences, and escape routes. Imperial-clan experts reinforced guards facing powerful resistance, while Li Chen defeated the secretly Saint Realm Wang Tengfeng with a golden palm strike that demolished the Wang estate. Searches and fighting continued past midnight as residents remained indoors 188.

The Crown Prince investigation eventually implicated Prince Jing’an’s heir, Li Yang, who had removed the prince’s guards and then fled the capital. Li Chen punished Prince Jing’an for failing to discipline his son, revoked the family’s privileges and inheritance rights, and ordered the execution of Li Yang’s associates in the residence 208.

Growth under Li Chen

Improved public order encouraged residents to expand their enterprises. The capital’s prosperity was described as part of the dynasty’s finest period in several hundred years across politics, the economy, culture, public morale, and law enforcement 230.

Territorial expansion and easier transportation increased trade, but also drove up land and storefront prices. Li Chen ordered the Ministries of Works and Revenue to develop stronger market oversight 295 296.

The Floating Immortal Isles project introduced a new tier of urban development above the city, with islands designated for government offices, Royal Academy branches, and an expanded Imperial Harem 602.
