It was noon.
The weather seemed to have grown hotter lately, and Lin Zhishui felt rather glad that, tempted by the low price, he had chosen this out-of-the-way shop with air conditioning over another location with some foot traffic but no air conditioning. Otherwise, how could he have settled down to practice calligraphy?
Bored, Lin Zhishui lay on the small bed behind the screen, browsing a novel on his phone with half-closed eyes during his midday nap.
It had been ages since he had read one of his Little Snake's books. Perhaps knowing the author too well made it hard to muster much interest. But last month, Little Snake had said her new book was a huge hit, so he had decided to take a look during his lunch break.
Still, he kept feeling that the premise of her new book was rather similar to her first, only with the setting switched to a modern city, making it all seem especially vague. After catching up to the latest chapter, he had nothing better to do and started rereading her first book.
Her first book had probably been banned for its overly explicit descriptions. Fortunately, he still treasured a carefully proofread copy.
Since he was having trouble falling asleep anyway, such a boring book made perfect bedtime reading. By the time he reached the point where the heroine had fought an immortal for more than fifty chapters, it had finally succeeded in putting him to sleep.
In his drowsy haze, Lin Zhishui heard knocking outside, along with a woman calling his name.
"Mr. Lin? Mr. Lin?"
Lin Zhishui groggily got up and walked to the edge of the screen to look outside. A slender, long-haired woman stood in the doorway, wearing a face mask, sunglasses, and a bucket hat.
When the
