Sorento discovered that Ikki had trapped him in an illusion, leaving him carrying a reef stone instead of Athena back to the Undersea Shrine. Meanwhile, Saori, Meruem, and the remaining Saint Seiya explored the shrine as Meruem explained its secrets and worried that Yoma would soon return.

  • Sorento reached the Great Black Pillar, but Baian revealed that the bundle on his shoulder was a reef stone, not Athena.
  • Sorento realized an intruder had entered the Undersea Shrine and that Ikki's Phantom Demon Fist had kept him trapped in an illusion.

  • Kanon revealed his identity as Saga’s younger brother and Meruem’s spy, explaining that he had killed Sea Monster but Sea Emperor’s Son Krest had escaped.

Ch. 218The New Pope

After the Sea Realm War, Meruem nominated Kanon to succeed Shion as Pope, and the Sanctuary approved the appointment despite Saga’s objections. Kanon was crowned, while Shion looked ahead to the coming Holy War against the Underworld.

  • Meruem considered the risks of taking a god’s divine spark and decided not to kill Poseidon before dealing with Hades.
  • Meruem nominated Kanon as Shion’s successor, citing Shion’s age and Kanon’s service as an undercover agent in the Sea Realm.

  • Shion brought Kanon to the Pope Palace to learn his new duties, and Kanon struggled through piles of documents while thinking of impressing his older brother.
  • Arubio returned to Andromeda Island and took pride in his rising standing in Sanctuary, his Seventh Sense strength, and his disciple Shun’s status as one of Athena’s Five Royal Guards.
  • Arubio recalled Athena’s encouragement and promise of funding, unaware that Meruem had asked Saori to use those assurances to win the loyalty of Saints stationed abroad.
  • Several powerful strangers appeared on Andromeda Island, and one of them burned an Arubio disciple alive before Arubio could intervene.
  • Arubio used Saint Cross Restraint to reveal and bind a purple-armored intruder, then recognized the armor and cried out in shock.

Ch. 220Andromeda Island

Arubio confronted Chris, a Berserker commander from Ares’s Legion of Fire, on Andromeda Island and learned that Berserkers had secretly gathered there to kill the Saint Seiyas. As Chris broke free of his chains and more Berserkers arrived, Arubio faced an increasingly dangerous attack.

  • Arubio recognized Chris as a Berserker and asked which legion he served.
  • Chris identified himself as Exploding Fist Chris of the Legion of Fire and said Berserkers had come to wipe out the Saint Seiyas.
  • Arubio realized Chris had brought hidden reinforcements and ordered his disciples to bind him with their chains.
  • Chris’s Cosmo made him swell against the chains, and Arubio’s disciples wrapped him in a chain cocoon.
  • A group of Berserkers in fiery red armor arrived, and the leader of the Legion of Calamity mocked Chris.
  • Chris told the Butcher of the Legion of Calamity to stay out of the Legion of Fire’s affairs.

Ch. 221Berserkers

The Berserkers attacked Sanctuary branches around the world, but suffered devastating defeats at Death Queen Island and the Five Old Peaks. After reviewing the losses, Pope Kanon called a meeting, where Meruem urged retaliation and Saori prepared for war.

  • Chris defeated Arubio on Andromeda Island, declared the island erased, and left the Ares Army's mark before departing with the Berserkers.
  • The Ares Army's forces were annihilated at Death Queen Island and the Pamir Plateau, while attacks elsewhere left many Sanctuary branches weakened.
  • Berserkers who attacked the Five Old Peaks were slaughtered by Carver Taoists secretly serving Meruem's Chimera Ant Army.
