Contrary to what Bagnell had said, what stood before them was not an abandoned old base. Its gleaming outer armor and high-strength protective glass all showed that it had not been built long ago.
Bagnell scratched his head. "Looks like I've been away too long. This place has changed too."
This was a thoroughly modern base, much larger even than Chen Mu's, with Card Adepts flying in and out from time to time. The building was circular, with numerous entrances and exits. By a rough estimate, it could accommodate at least ten thousand people.
To build such an enormous base deep in the Jungle showed just how formidable its builders' resources were.
Such a large force was quite conspicuous. Every Card Adept who passed them gave the group an extra look.
Bagnell led the way as the group entered the base.
Immediately inside was a hall that alone could accommodate two thousand people. The place was far livelier than Chen Mu had imagined. Card Adepts gathered in groups of three or five, drinking and chatting.
As Chen Mu's group entered, the hall abruptly fell silent, and every gaze converged on them. Large groups of unfamiliar Card Adepts rarely appeared here.
Bagnell was utterly unfazed, muttering, "A different broth, but the same old medicine. It's pretty much the same as before!"
What surprised Chen Mu was the generally high caliber of the Card Adepts here. A few even gave him a sense of danger. Even the most ordinary among them could have earned a place among the elite in a typical Card Adept Corps.
Their gazes held a trace of hostility and intense wariness.
