The Command Center at East Guard Base was under heavy guard. Its largest conference room was nearly full. Anyone who saw those present would have been astonished to discover that almost every senior official at East Guard Base had attended this meeting, except Chen Mu.
Bagnell sat at the head of the table. He had only just arrived at the base. This was only the second time in two years that he had left Great Rift Base.
Everyone had taken their seats, and the entire conference room was silent as the grave. Every face was solemn. Some of them still did not understand what had happened, but seeing even Bagnell at the meeting, the dullest among them knew something major was about to happen.
Bagnell and Xi Ping sat at the head of the table. With Chen Mu absent, they were the base's two leaders.
Below them, Liduhong, Jiang Liang, and Alfonso sat on the right, while Su Liu Cherou and Lei Zi and his wife sat on the left, in that order. Liduhong was the Wanqi Clan's clan leader, Jiang Liang was the military's second-in-command and head of the newly established Staff Headquarters, and Alfonso headed the Card Machinery Department. Su Liu Cherou headed the Medical Department, Lei Zi headed the Foreign Affairs Department, and Lan Feng was the overall head of the Intelligence Department. Besides them, every squad captain from the Wood Character Camp and the Hunter Corps attended the meeting. After the Snow Silk Worm Card Adept Corps was reorganized into the Hunter Corps, its original organizational structure had remained intact.
The atmosphere in the conference room was unusually grave.
This was only the second meeting on this scale in two years. The first had been the emergency meeting held after the Frost Crystal Storm.
